86-year-old man dead, his 62-year-old daughter injured in Cedarburg house fire Friday

State fire marshals and other investigators were at the scene of a fatal fire in Cedarburg on Hillcrest Avenue, near the intersection with Lincoln Boulevard.

An 86-year-old man died and his 62-year-old daughter was injured in a Cedarburg house fire about 9:30 a.m. Friday, according to a joint news release from the Cedarburg police and fire departments.

When fire, EMS and police arrived at the home on Hillcrest Avenue near Lincoln Boulevard they saw through a window the  man on the floor of a front room that was "heavily filled with smoke."

Two Cedarburg police officers were evaluated for smoke inhalation after going into the house to pull the man out. 

The daughter was found alive in a back bedroom and was treated for smoke inhalation and transported to Columbia St. Mary's Hospital in Milwaukee.

There was no structural damage to either part of the duplex and the fire was contained to the living room area in the lower unit. The scene was cleared about 2 p.m. Friday.

The cause of death of the man as well as what started the fire remain unknown and are being investigated by the state fire marshal and the Cedarburg police and fire departments.
