JJ Redick agrees to one-year, $23 million deal with 76ers

LA Clippers guard JJ Redick (4) reacts after scoring during the first half against the Dallas Mavericks at American Airlines Center.

Shooting guard JJ Redick agreed to a one-year, $23 million deal with the Philadelphia 76ers, two people familiar with the deal told USA TODAY Sports.

They requested anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly until the deal is official.

Landing Redick is a significant acquisition for the 76ers, who are escalating their rebuild.

Redick, who played for the Los Angeles Clippers the last four seasons, helps on two fronts. He delivers three-point shooting – he has shot at 42.9% on threes in each of the past three seasons – and he provides a veteran presence that will help a young locker room that includes Joel Embiid and Dario Saric, who were rookies in 2016-17, and Ben Simmons and Markelle Fultz, who will be rookies in 2017-18.

Last season, Redick averaged 15 points and shot 42.9% on three-pointers.

Shortly after agreeing to the deal, Redick tweeted, “Trust the process,” a nod to Embiid and the franchise’s willingness to let the rebuild unfold at its own pace.

But there’s no doubt the process is picking up speed.
