Toronto Raptors general manager Jeff Weltman has agreed to become the Orlando Magic's president of basketball operations, a person with knowledge of the contract negotiations confirmed to USA TODAY Sports' Sam Amick.

The person spoke under the condition of anonymity because the hiring has not yet been announced.

Weltman, who spent five seasons as an assistant general manager with the Milwaukee Bucks before joining Toronto, was with the team when they drafted star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo. Once being hired by Toronto, he oversaw the team's rise in the Eastern Conference alongside president Masai Ujiri. He has also held positions with the Los Angeles Clippers, Denver Nuggets and Detroit Pistons.

Weltman's deal with the Magic is for five years.

The Magic had serious interest in Hall of Famer-turned-TNT analyst Kevin McHale and Cleveland Cavaliers general manager David Griffin for the team president position before hiring Weltman.

The Magic, who have missed the playoffs for the past five seasons, fired general manager Rob Hennigan in April. He was replaced by front office executive Matt Lloyd, whose role with the team moving forward is unclear.

The Magic's record was 132-278 during Hennigan's tenure, which was the second-worst in the NBA over that span.

The Vertical first reported the Weltman hiring.
