CONCORD, N.C. — NASCAR has postponed Saturday night's Sprint Cup Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway due to Hurricane Matthew, making the call nine hours before the scheduled start time.

The Bank of America 500 will now run at noon Eastern time Sunday and will be televised on NBC, followed by the Xfinity Series race -- which had been postponed from Friday -- on NBCSN.

NASCAR had not held a Cup-Xfinity doubleheader on the same day for six years until last week at Dover International Speedway and now has one two weeks in a row. In addition, this is the second straight year Charlotte's October race has been postponed.

Though the forecast had Matthew's rain scheduled to move out of the area by early evening, NASCAR would have essentially encouraged fans to come to the track only to sit in the rain and wind for hours beforehand. Some local roads already have standing water and many fans travel from several hours away.
