Westbrook gives tearful, thankful MVP speech

Russell Westbrook is your 2016-17 NBA MVP. It finally became official when NBA commissioner Adam Silver read his name as the final winner at the first-ever NBA Awards Show.

The Oklahoma City Thunder point guard who averaged a triple-double was one of three finalists, along with the Houston Rockets' James Harden and San Antonio Spurs' Kawhi Leonard, but everyone expected him to win this award.

Then the speech came. Westbrook called up his teammates to the stage.

He thanked his parents.

He got particularly emotional discussing his brother.

The speech might not have a single line as memorable as "You the real MVP," but what other NBA speech ever has?

Besides, Westbrook was in a tough position compared to former teammate Kevin Durant. He had less time, and the award came at the end of a two-plus-hour awards show. He didn't have a podium or table - he had to give the trophy back so he could speak. And he came immediately after a tear-jerking presentation of the Sager Strong Award to Monty Williams, Westbrook's own former assistant coach.

Here's full video of the speech:

All of that considered, Westbrook did an excellent job. As he did all season. MVP.
