The ups and downs of the Nicolet baseball team were epitomized in the final week of the regular season against a pair of state-ranked teams, as the Knights pulled the upset over Germantown but then were unable to hang with Franklin.

Nicolet closed North Shore Conference play at 7-11 with an 8-2 win over Germantown on July 3 and wrapped up the regular season with a 13-13 record with a 15-1 loss to Franklin.

The Knights received the sixth seed in their sectional and were slated to host 11th-seeded Cedarburg in a regional semifinal July 11. A win would have sent Nicolet to a regional final at third-seeded Menomonee Falls on July 12.

Germantown

A four-run first inning was enough for Jackson Mandella, as the right-hander limited Germantown to just two runs on five hits for a complete-game victory.

Ben Babisch homered and drove in four runs for the Knights.

Jaren Yoder and Sam Devorkin each had three hits, while Jack Hansen and Eli Winter also drove in runs.

Franklin

The Sabers scored five runs in the first inning, three in the second and seven in the third to put away Nicolet.

Winter doubled and drove in the lone run of the game for the Knights.

Daniel Schiff started on the mound and recorded one out. Winter, Noah Glidden, and Yoder also pitched.
