Twenty-year-old Arcan Cetin was taken into custody Saturday night and charged in the deadly rampage that killed five in a Burlington, Wash., mall.

Arcan Cetin, 20, of Oak Harbor, Wash.

Details have surfaced about the Oak Harbor resident in the hours since his arrest. Here's what we know:

1. Authorities say Cetin brought a "hunting style" weapon into Macy's and opened fire.

Around 7 p.m. PT a man resembling Cetin walked into the Cascade Mall. He didn't have a weapon, according to surveillance footage. But 10 minutes later, he showed up at the Macy's with a "hunting-style" rifle, authorities said. He went into the store's makeup area and opened fire.

Then he fled on foot.

Four women and a man were shot. The female victims died at the scene, while the male victim was pronounced after being taken to a local hospital.

2. Sheriff's deputies found him the following evening — near their Oak Harbor office.

Eleven search teams and two K-9 units were deployed to search the 434,000-square foot mall. And a multi-jurisdictional team of officers spent the next 20-plus hours searching for the suspect, only to capture Cetin near the Island County Sheriff's Office in his hometown.

Cetin's car was parked near the office. And he was walking down the street.

“I saw an individual walking northbound on the sidewalk and I instantly recognized that this is the person that I just viewed on my computer,” said Lt. Mike Hawley of the Mount Vernon Police Department.

"He said nothing," Hawley added. "He was kind of zombie-like."

3. Cetin is a longtime Oak Harbor resident.

Born in Turkey, Cetin immigrated to the United States with his family as a child. He grew up in Oak Harbor and graduated from Oak Harbor High School.

Initial reports from police after the shooting labeled the then-unidentified suspect as Hispanic. Mount Vernon Lt. Chris Cammock said he believes the initial descriptions came from shooting witnesses.

"There was sometimes thoughts about how he acted. There was a lot of girls that were like, 'that guy's weird,'" said Jose Ochoa, a resident who was friends with Cetin in grammar school but lost touch in high school.

"I'm still in shock," he added. "One day, in your memory, in your memory they're good ... the next day, they show their true selves."

4. His motive may involve a breakup.

Despite rumors about Islamic terrorism, authorities said during a news conference late Saturday there is no evidence of the shooting being terror-related.

The motive remains unclear, but law enforcement sources told KING-TV Cetin's ex-girlfriend used to work at the Macy's where the shooting happened. However, she has not worked there in months and now lives in another county.

5. Cetin has a criminal history.

Cetin was involved in a number of cases in recent years, according to the Washington court database.

Cetin has faced three assault charges related to domestic violence, the Seattle Times reported. They involved his father.

A judge told Cetin Dec. 29 he could not possess a firearm, the Times reported. His stepfather convinced the judge not to include a no-contact order because Cetin was "going through a hard time."

Cetin also has an arrest on a drunken driving charge, the Times reported.
