Woman killed by her own dogs
CONIFER, Colo. — A woman died Monday after her own dogs attacked her, authorities said.
Her son, who is in his late teens or early 20s, tried to intervene in the 7 p.m. MT attack. He was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life threatening, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.
His mom was so severely mauled that she died before she could be transported to a hospital.
Even after the initial attack, responding officers needed about 30 minutes to corner the two pit-bull terrier mixes on a porch because the pets continued to act aggressively, deputies said. Jefferson County Animal Control is now housing the dogs as officers investigate the circumstances of the attack.
The sheriff's office has not released the names of the victims or what might have happened before the attack.
