WHITEFISH BAY - The Whitefish Bay Civic Foundation is celebrating its 10th year of cleaning up the village and promoting environmental education through its Green Day in the Bay event.
The Whitefish Bay Civic Foundation will host this year's Green Day in the Bay from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 6, at Cahill Park. In a separate but related event, the village of Whitefish Bay and Dominican High School will host a recycling collection from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. that day in the west parking lot of Dominican High School. Some electronic electronic recycling fees may apply, but all other items will be recycled for free.
Green Day in the Bay starts with a village-wide cleanup effort from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Volunteers are asked to bring their own work gloves and garbage bags. To sign up to pick up trash, email your name and your team name to email@example.com.
Additionally, a number of ecologically-minded exhibitors will provide interactive demonstrations and educational materials from 9 a.m. to noon in the Cahill Park warming house. The eco-fair will include Schlitz Audubon, Water Commons, a beeswax demonstration and beehive exhibit, monarch butterflies, the Whitefish Bay Farmers Market, Whitefish Bay Community Garden, Whitefish Bay Garden Club, Whitefish Bay Middle School Green Team, North Shore Health Department, MMSD, Victory Garden Initiative and ACE Hardware.
Friends of the Whitefish Bay Library will accept used books. The Cumberland School Student Council will lead hands-on tutorials about making seed tape and composting. The Whitefish Bay Garden Club will create and hand out bird nesting bags. Richards PTO will distribute and sell plants.
