WHITEFISH BAY - The Whitefish Bay Public Library has planned a series of "Community Conversations."

Community Conversations are an opportunity for the local community to gather and learn about relevant concerns and find ways of coping with stress. Both workshops are free and open to the public.

The first workshop, titled "Achieving Relief by Letting Go of Stress and Anxiety," will be facilitated by Jojopah Nsoroma at 6 p.m. Monday, April 24, and 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 26. This one-hour session is designed to help participants become more able to recognize and release the aftereffects of overwhelming fear. Basic information will be shared regarding the neurological and physical impact of trauma, and basic methods for addressing post-traumatic stress symptoms. There will also be a demonstration of a simple meditative practice that helps to alleviate anxiety and fears associate with traumatic events.

The second workshop, titled "Individual and Family Safety Awareness Seminar," will be facilitated by J.K. Lee Black Belt Academy instructor Jeff Gendelman at 6 p.m. Monday, May 1. Topics covered during this seminar include visual, verbal and physical strategies to protect you and your loved ones at home, school, work and at the mall. The workshop is appropriate for all ages and conditions from 5 to 85.
