MEQUON - Matthew Joynt has been announced as the next Mequon-Thiensville School District superintendent.

Current Superintendent Demond Means recently accepted a position at the Clarke County School District in Athens, Georgia. His last day at MTSD is June 30.

The MTSD board of education announced their selection of Joynt in a news release May 10.

He began his career with MTSD in 1999 as a Wilson Elementary teacher. He was also the assistant principal at Homestead High School before becoming principal of Shorewood High School. He returned to the district in 2013 to become the assistant superintendent of educational services.

In a statement, the board said Joynt has demonstrated a "steadfast commitment to excellence in every facet of the educational experience."

“We are most fortunate to have found within our own leadership team the ideal person for this important leadership role – an individual deeply committed to our core values and someone who has been actively involved in the implementation of our strategic plan over the last several years,” the board said.

In addition, the board said they were aware of the likelihood of a vacancy in the position due to Means applying in Georgia. Their focus was to "identify an individual who would be aligned with and committed to our district’s core values and strategic plan, and to identify a person who also brought executive-level experience to the position."

The board said Joynt knows how to prioritize and has the "internal capacity to deliver" and is "a tireless champion for all students."

The release said at Joynt's suggestion and with the support of the board, MTSD will schedule a reception for residents to meet Joynt before he starts in his new position this summer. Joynt will also meet with parents, teachers, and community members over the summer.

Qualifications

Joynt has a master's of science degree in educational administration from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) and a bachelor's of science degree in elementary education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is working toward his Ph.D. in philosophy of educational administration from UWM with an expected graduation date of December 2018.

According to the release, Joynt is also a member of the UW-Milwaukee Administrative Leadership Advisory Council, the Cardinal Stritch University School of Education Advisory Board and the Milwaukee School of Engineering School Administration MBA Program Advisory Board.

Joynt, his wife, Heidi, and their two children live in the community. Their youngest son will be joining his two older siblings when he begins the 4K program next school year.
