GLENDALE - A metal treatment plant in Glendale caught fire on Saturday, Feb. 20, causing $50,000 to $100,000 in damage.

An employee at Treat All Metals, 5140 N. Port Washington Road, called 911 at 6:23 p.m. Saturday to report a fire. Three employees had been evacuated from the facility and were uninjured.

The first North Shore Fire Department units to arrive at the scene reported heavy smoke and fire showing from the metal treatment facility.  Because some of the treatment processes that take place at the facility are reactive with water, crews deployed several fire extinguishers on the fire until on-site staff confirmed that the process taking place at the time was safe to extinguish using conventional firefighting tactics. The fire was quickly brought under control and extinguished with water.

No one was injured in the incident. The fire was primarily contained within one of the treatment furnaces. There was some minor damage to the immediate area surrounding the furnace as well. Damages are still being assessed, but facility staff gave a preliminary estimate of $50,000 to $100,000.
