BROWN DEER - A white, 75-foot cellular communications tower will be erected in Fairy Chasm Park.
The Brown Deer Village Board on March 20 awarded a conditional use permit to Eco-Site for the cell tower, which would be constructed just north of the park's bathroom facilities. Eco-Site wanted to build a cell tower between County Line Road and Brown Deer Road and 51st Street and 60th Street to provide better cellular service for T-Mobile customers. The tower will start with one array of antennas for T-Mobile at the top, and two other arrays could be added to the tower in the future. The cell tower would be surrounded by an eight-foot fence.
Trustees voted 6-1 to allow the cell tower, with Trustee Jamie Awe voting against. The board was persuaded to vote for the cell tower after learning that Eco-Site could hypothetically contract with a private property owner, in which case the village would be limited in its ability to deny or regulate the cell tower permit. Eco-Site will pay the village $19,200 in rent per year for the next 30 years.
