Bayside - A new face has joined the Bayside Village Board.

Trustees on Oct. 20 agreed to appoint Bayside resident Roger Arteaga-Derenne to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of former Trustee Jim Petersen on Sept. 30. Petersen served on the village board since 2003, but he is moving out of the village.

Five residents applied for the open seat on the village board, including Tom Noble, Elizabeth Levins, Karen Kaminsky and Mary Beth Kilian. After interviewing the candidates, the trustees decided Arteaga-Derenne was the best fit for the position. His term expires in April 2018.

Arteaga-Derenne has served on the Bayside Plan Commission, as well as the village's Architectural Review Committee, since 2009. He is a manager in the business consulting department at Acuity, a mutual insurance company. A Bayside resident of 17 years, he said he appreciates the village's quiet streets and well-kept parks.

"I want to ensure these are maintained properly while we grow and enhance our village with modern amenities," he wrote in his application to the village board. "I believe that requires a fine balance as we retain the beauty, promote home values and ensure fair tax rates."
