Family Fun event to be held in Brown Deer

The Education Foundation of Brown Deer is again sponsoring Family Fun in the Fieldhouse from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Jan. 21 at the Novak Family Fieldhouse, 8060 N. 60th St., Brown Deer.

The event is open to the general public with an emphasis on families.  Children in sixth grade and younger will be able to use up a bit of their energy riding their trikes on the indoor track, using the climbing wall, enjoying a bouncy house, running and dancing, and enjoying some food for purchase.  The cost is $1 per person or $5 for a family.  Proceeds support the work of the Education Foundation of Brown Deer.

Whitefish Bay gets sneak peak of 'Around the Corner'

The Whitefish Bay community is invited to take a sneak peak of the Whitefish Bay episode of "Around the Corner with John McGivern" during a preview party on Tuesday, Jan. 24.

McGivern, who just finished his sixth season of chronicling the residents, businesses and history of Wisconsin communities, was in Whitefish Bay in June interviewing local families, village officials and longtime businesses like Winkie's, Jack Pandl's Whitefish Bay Inn, Regina's Bay Bakery and Dan Fitzgerald Pharmacy. The Whitefish Bay episode of "Around the Corner" is expected to air Thursday, Jan. 26, on PBS.

The Whitefish Bay community will get a sneak peek at the episode two days earlier. The free preview party event will be held at Whitefish Bay High School, 1200 E. Fairmount Ave. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the screening begins at 7 p.m.

Friendship Circle holds gala auction

The Friendship Circle of Wisconsin is sponsoring a city-wide gala auction from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Jan. 25 at Schlitz Audubon Nature Center, 1111 E. Brown Deer Road, Bayside.

The goal of the event is to raise funds for Friendship Circle of Wisconsin, which is a division of Chabad Lubavitch of Wisconsin that provides assistance and support to individuals with special needs by organizing events, social outings and home visits with teen volunteers.

At the gala, guests will view artwork created by individuals with special needs and will have the opportunity to bid on those pieces of artwork through a silent auction. Guests will also be treated to a buffet of appetizers, cocktails and a performance by professional singer Cantor Hurwitz. Following the silent auction, guests will hear from a parent of a child with special needs, a volunteer with Friendship Circle of Wisconsin. A live auction and an inspirational video presentation will also take place.
