A 15-year-old girl in Kewaskum has been arrested for threatening shootings at Milwaukee high schools by a person wearing a clown mask, according to the Associated Press and the Milwaukee Police Department.

Milwaukee Police Sgt. Tim Gauerke said Thursday that the girl was arrested this week in connection with making the clown-related threats, and that her case would be presented to the Washington County District Attorney's office.

Creepy clown rumors hit Milwaukee-area schools

The arrest comes as the nationwide clown threat hoax has reached Milwaukee-area schools. A West Bend seventh-grader is facing a possible charge of disorderly conduct this week for sending clown-related text messages to students.

While the social media-fueled "creepy clown" threats and purported sightings are mostly pranks, law enforcement and school authorities have had to take actual threats seriously. Sheboygan police arrested a man with a clown mask and a concealed knife Wednesday night.
