BAYSIDE

A couple reported being the victim of a scam after a call from their “grandson” saying he’d been in an accident, had a broken nose explaining why his voice sounded strange, and he needed money for bail Dec. 13. The grandfather went to Walgreens and sent $1,450 via Western Union to Pennsylvania. A few hours later, the couple received another call, this one from the grandson’s attorney saying the bail had been raised and he needed to send $1,500 more and this time send it from a CVS Pharmacy. The resident went to the Whitefish Bay branch and an employee there told him this was a scam. He then went to one in Cedarburg and an employee there also told him it was a scam. They then called their grandson and found out he was fine and Western Union has been contacted. The case is under investigation.
