While Montgomery’s clown problems are just beginning, Troy Police Department announced Monday that it has seemingly put an end to Troy's.

Clown masks used by two Troy-area high school students. The masks were confiscated by Troy Police Department.

A since-deleted Facebook account named ClappyAndslappy DaClown caused concern when the account, seemingly representing two clowns, threatened violence against Troy residents in posts and a five minute video last week.

In a public release sent out Monday afternoon, Troy PD said it had apprehended the pair who turned out to be Charles Henderson High School students.

MPS: Clown threat ‘no laughing matter’

Troy Police Department’s Detective Division also took control of the Facebook account around noon Monday to announce that the teens had been caught and that “there is no danger from clowns in our city.”

Troy Police Department caught two teens who posed as clowns to threaten violence on the Facebook page ClappyAndslappy DaClown which was taken over by Troy PD before being deleted.

Troy PD said the teens “intended for the video to be funny and posted it as a prank.”

“Most of the people that saw the posts on Facebook did not see the post as anything to laugh about and we couldn’t agree more,” Troy PD said in a statement.

No charges have been filed at this time, but with the masks confirmed to be Troy PD’s possession, it seems the circus is over in Troy.

In a similar situation, Montgomery law enforcement and school officials are on alert after another clown account, this one called Bingerman Clownferd, threatened to visit one Montgomery school every day this week.

MPS Senior Communication Officer Tom Salter said the threats are being taken seriously, but no clown sighting has yet been confirmed in Montgomery.
