'Cinderella' comes to Mequon

The Mequon Thiensville Recreation Department presents Disney's 'Cinderella' Friday, Aug. 11 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Aug.12 at 1 p.m. in the Range Line Gym, 11040 North Range Line Road, Mequon. Admission is free. Doors open 30 minutes prior to the show. 

Glendale police hold 'Night Out'

The Glendale Police Department and North Shore Fire/Rescue will hold a National Night Out event on Wednesday, Aug. 16 in the parking lot behind the police department, 5909 N. Milwaukee River Parkway, and the neighboring NSFD Station 82, 5901 N. Milwaukee River Parkway. 

National Night Out is a national campaign designed to build positive interactions between police and the community they serve. In addition to police officers, firefighters and emergency vehicles, the event will feature a Cost Cutters' hair color and styling station for kids, a kids woodworking station presented by Home Depot and a vehicle extraction demonstration by NSFD.

Surf Atwater celebrates fifth year

For the fifth year, Surf Atwater will celebrate surfing and Lake Michigan with an all-day event on Saturday, Aug. 19 at Atwater Beach.

The event begins with a sunrise paddle out at 5:30 a.m., followed by a beach blessing, beach yoga, beach cleanup, surf and stand-up paddleboard competition, surf and stand-up paddleboard lessons, Hawaiian music from Ocean Rush and the screening of several freshwater-related films on the beach.

Sounds of Summer to be heard in Bay

The Whitefish Bay Civic Foundation will hold its annual Sounds of Summer street festival on the east end of Silver Spring Drive on Saturday, Aug. 19.

The street festival features food, drinks and three bands. Extra Crispy Blues Band will kick things off at 5:30 p.m., followed by a 1980s tribute band called the Rhythm Method at 7 p.m. and a Styx tribute band called Light Up! at 8:30 p.m.

Bank hosts fraud prevention seminar

North Shore Bank has partnered with the Shorewood BID to host a business fraud prevention seminar from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16 at Three Lions Pub, 4515 N. Oakland Ave., Shorewood.

Women's club hosts open house

The Whitefish Bay Women’s Club will hold an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 20 at its clubhouse, 600 E. Henry Clay St.

The club will showcase exhibits highlighting the club’s historic impact on the community, a display of the archives and the Whitefish Bay and Fox Point phone directories the club published from 1927 through 2000. Duplicate phone books will be for sale.

Antiques expert Mark Moran will be appraising 40 pre-registered items at the event. Items can be registered with Moran by calling 262-242-4683.

Brown Deer Library holds used book sale

Friends of the Brown Deer Library is sponsoring a used book sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25 and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26 in the community room at the library, 5600 W. Bradley Road.

A preview sale will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24. The preview sale is free for Friends members or $5 for non-members. Used book donations can be dropped off at the library after Aug. 14.

Knights of Columbus hosts first 'Blues, Brew and BBQ Bash'

Knights of Columbus Council 4706 will host its first Blues, Brew and BBQ Bash from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26 at St. Monica Parish, 160 E. Silver Spring Drive, Whitefish Bay. 

Barbecue, beer, wine and other beverages will be available for purchase. Musical entertainment will be provided by Leroy Airmaster, featuring Matt Liban and Little Maddie B. All proceeds support Knights of Council 4706, which consists of four North Shore Catholic parishes: St. Eugene, St. Monica, Holy Family and St. Robert.

'A Chorus Line' comes to Cardinal Stritch

Milwaukee Opera Theatre and Theater RED will present "A Chorus Line" at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27 and 7:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 28 at Cardinal Stritch University's Nancy Kendall Theater, 6801 N. Glendale police hold 5K fundraiser

The Glendale Police Department is hosting a run/walk event to raise funds for the department's bullet-resistant vests, K-9 unit and crime prevention unit.

The event, which will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, welcomes runners and walkers of all abilities to participate in either a 5K run or a 2-mile walk. The run will start and end in Richard E. Maslowski Glendale Community Park, 2200 W. Bender Road. Sign up at runsignup.com/Race/WI/Glendale/GPDRootBeerRomp.

The run is part of Glendale's Root Beer Bash event, which will include several root-beer-oriented competitions dubbed the Root Beer Olympics. Competitions include root beer chugging, keg rolling and a keg toss.
