Kohl's Corp. will close its Brown Deer store - one of 18 under-performing department stores across the country that the retailer is shutting down.

The Menomonee Falls-based company said last month that it would be closing stores, but didn't disclose the locations until Wednesday afternoon.

The Brown Deer store, 9060 N. Green Bay Rd., is the only Wisconsin property being shuttered.

Nine of the 18 stores being targeted are in California. Three are in Georgia, two are in Florida, and one each are in Illinois, North Carolina and New Jersey.

Except for a Georgia store that will remain open through October, the closings will be carried out by June 19. That will bring Kohl's nationwide department-store count to about 1,150.

Meanwhile, the company this year is opening seven new small-format department stores, adding two Off/Aisle discount stores in Wisconsin, and opening 12 Fila shops in outlet malls.
