'Project Runway' will feature models from sizes 0-22

Host Hedi Klum and mentor Tim Gunn return for Season 16 of 'Project Runway.'

Instead of having a single so-called "real woman" challenge a season, Project Runway is finally dressing women of diverse shapes and sizes throughout the entire season.

Season 16 of Lifetime's design competition show, which premieres on Aug. 17, will include models ranging from size 0 to 22 and require competitors to construct winning looks for any size.

It seems the show is finally following the advice of "Make it work" mentor Tim Gunn, who wrote in an op-ed in the Washington Post last year about how the fashion industry "has turned its back on plus-size women."

'Project Runway' Season 16 features these designers: Aaron Myers (23), Amy Bond (46), Ayana Ife (27), Batani-Khalfani (32), Brandon Kee (24) and Claire Buitendorp (27)

"There is no reason larger women can’t look just as fabulous as all other women. The key is the harmonious balance of silhouette, proportion and fit, regardless of size or shape," he wrote. "Designs need to be reconceived, not just sized up; it’s a matter of adjusting proportions."

Though plus-size designer Ashley Nell Tipton won Season 14 of the series, Gunn said that "victory reeked of tokenism."

New episodes of Project Runway will feature Gunn, of course, along with regulars Heidi Klum, Nina Garcia and Zac Posen. Guest judges include Demi Lovato, Katie Holmes, Olivia Munn, Yolanda Hadid, Kate Upton, Maggie Q, Kelsea Ballerini and Maddie Ziegler.
