Rihanna will scoop up the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the MTV Video Music Awards

MTV announced Thursday that Rihanna will be awarded the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the MTV Video Music Awards for her impact on pop culture and her philanthropic efforts. RiRi will also treat viewers to a performance during the ceremony.

The Sledgehammer singer has received two moon men to date in the video of the year category, for Umbrella and We Found Love.

The accomplished 28-year-old joins other notable recipients of the award like Madonna, Kanye West, Britney Spears, Beyoncé, and Justin Timberlake.

Beyoncé is up for an impressive 11 awards, including video of the year. Should the stars get in Formation, the trophy will be hers. Adele was also nominated in this category and seven others, including best pop video and best female video. MTV also showed loved through nods for Drake, Justin Bieber, and the late David Bowie, but snubbed a "disappointed" Nick Jonas. See the full list of nominations here.
