The West Allis Powerball jackpot winner gave a gift card to a random mom shopping at Target on Mother's Day

When Manuel Franco revealed himself in April as the $768.4 million Powerball jackpot winner, he spoke about wanting to help the world once he got his affairs in order.

One month later he took perhaps his first humble stab at it by giving a $200 Target gift card for an Illinois mother on Mother’s Day.

Nicole Domitro, in a Facebook post on May 12, wrote that she was shopping for Pull-Ups for her son at an Illinois Target when she was approached by Franco, who, “a little nervously,” introduced himself as a recent lottery winner with a gift card to give away.

Franco, a 24-year-old West Allis native, told Domitro he used to work at a Target in Milwaukee but lives in Illinois now to avoid being recognized by the public, her post said.

She said Franco tried to give the gift card to several other people, but they declined to accept. Domitro said she was skeptical at first, but later confirmed Franco’s identity and legitimacy of the card. She did not say how she plans to use it.

“…would you believe, he ended up thanking ME,” Domitro wrote.

In an April press conference, Franco said he planned to “help out the world” with his new winnings, but needed time to assemble some financial advisers first.
